Preparing People For One Meeting

DaySpring realizes that every person will stand before the God of the universe and give an account. Christ, our high priest is the one mediator between God and men. We want every person to hear these words, "Well done good and faithful servant." We desire every person to have a faith that is steadfast and true. The church (the body of Christ) is designed to help us with our growth in steadfastness and truth. Ephesians 4: 11-16 again shows us how that works. Our goal then is Isaiah 61:3, "To grant those who mourn in Zion, giving them a garland instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord that He may be glorified."

Eldership

The elders of the body of Christ are called to, "shepherd the flock." (1 Peter 5:1-4). They also have specific responsibilities with the flock. We are called to build a spiritual legacy and to grow people in their faith. Every person will stand before God, the roll of the shepherd of the body of Christ is a high calling. People's souls are at stake.

1. Elders PROTECT the Flock
   • Against false teaching, Acts 20:17, 28-31
   • Seeking straying sheep, 1 Thessalonians 5:12
2. Elders FEED the Flock
   • Scripture is food, 1 Cor 3:2, Hebrews 5:12-14, 1 Peter 2:2
   • Teaching, 1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:9-16, John 21:17
3. Elders LEAD the Flock
   • Able leadership is important, 1 Timothy 5:17
   • Qualified leadership is essential, 1 Timothy 3:4,5
4. Elders offer LOVING CARE for the Flock
   • They give themselves, Acts 20:35
   • They pray for the flock, James 5:14,15

Levels of Leadership

1. People follow you because they have to, Mark 10:42-45 (Romans, Gentiles)
2. People follow you because they want to, Mark 4:18-22, (Disciples & Jesus)
3. People follow you because of what you have done for the organization or group, 1 Samuel 18:5-7, (David & Israel)
4. People follow you because of what you have done for them, 1 Samuel 18:1-3, (David & Jonathan)
5. People follow you because of who you are and what you represent, John 6:60-69, (Jesus & Peter)
